Folk's Instruments
Suggestion: don't start collecting instruments because you'll never stop, and then you'll have no money, and your wife will leave you. And she'll probably take the dog with her.
Both of us failed to heed our own advice, and consequently collect hand made instruments, some of which are shown in detail here.

Brazilian Rosewood Custom Fylde Archtop Long-Scale Bouzouki Sean's main instrument. This is a quite heavily customized instrument based on the Fylde signature bouzouki. The differences are: Brazilian rosewood body, sitka spruce front (as opposed to Englemann spruce), figured Koa binding and a rather beautiful non-standard mosaic purfling, laminated neck, Brazilian rosewood head stock, black tuner buttons, and a wide neck to accommodate my great big drummer's hands!

Brazilian Rosewood Custom Fylde Alexander Guitar Paul's main instrument. This is essentially the Fylde Alexander model, but with a Brazilian rosewood body and an Englemann spruce front. The neck is also unusual, and rather tasty. |

We both have one of these. The first Fylde we ever got hold of was Paul's, and seeing as he's left-handed Sean just HAD to get one too. |

Sean: The first really good stringed instrument I owned and quite unlike anything else I've managed to find in both design and sound. Bought directly as a result of hearing Steve Knightley play one. David Oddy's a nice guy, and anyone who buys an instrument from him should make sure they pick it up in person and get to see The Shed. |

Sean: I have large hands, and standard mandolins are really uncomfortable. These have a larger than standard neck and are much nicer to play. They also have a fantastic bottom end to them, unlike any other mandolin I've played. However I've now made the mistake of trying the Signature version, which is even better, and consequently this one might be on Ebay some time soon... |
If at any point while reading these pages you've formed the impression that we rather like Fylde instruments, well, you'd be right. In fact you might even say we have a bit of an addiction...
